ER, foreign students and some food.

I watched ER this afternoon.
I talked to foreign students in the evening.

As for the feast, they had fried chicken with potate chips, sushi, salad, smoked salmon, iced boiled pork with gravy sauce, gratin, assorted fritters, fruits, etc. I ate a lot of gari whichi is marinated ginger usually served with sushi. I love them.

How to learn English

Hello. In the latest Chinese class my teacher told us that making short phrases is most important in learning Chinese. I wonder if it is true to learning any language. In my high school we did not have writing classes. Most college entrance exams in Japan do not have writing section in English either. And I am poorer at writing and spelling than reading and listening.
In regard to learng a language other than mother tongues, it can be of some help to see how students in foreign countries are doing. Most Taiwanese I have met were good English user. I asked some of them how they became so. They say their junior high schools had English classes everyday and those were so interesting that students were fond of English lessons. Since I have never taken any class in Taiwan I do not know how the classes are there. Teachers in Taiwan seems to focus their attension on not making students hesitate in continuing learning the language. I think they have succeeded so far.
I like comparing the ways students learn in their schools among countries.

About spellings

I am not good at spelling. So if you find a mistake and you have enough time, leave the correct way to write the word, please.

To Enoshima!!

A new post. Two days in a row!
Today I am going to Enoshima! The weather seems to be nice, and it will be very nice day.
I am preparing for lunch now, onigiri, tamagoyaki, meatball...
See you later!

About where I am learning now

Yesterday, I had a chance to tell about the University of Tokyo School of Public Health in the morning meeting. In the Department of Forensic Medicine We have meetings twice a week, Tuesday and Friday. They know the title of the course but are not exactly what we are doing in this course.
The University of Tokyo SPH was established in 2007. By the way isn't there any abbrebiation for the school? UTSPH? We mainly study biostatistics and epidemiology.
There are three SPHs in Japan for now. One is at the University of Tokyo and the other two are in Kyoto and Kyushuu.
There have been the department of public health in the graduate shool of medicine but university people tend not to apply their possibly useful findings to the public.
Some professors felt we need a place where people can find the useful way of the art invented in labolatories in the university. Then they set up SPH after those in the U.S.

I do now know where the Todai SPH will go, but I feel I owe some responsibility about that.

THE BEAN TREES

This is the first book I read for the regular English class of a high school in Chicago.
One day a young woman find a native American baby. It turned out that the baby had been severely abused. At first, she was not the tipe of person who was very fit to raise a child, but as she knew what happened to the baby and knew those things often happen, she eventually decided to adapt the baby.
Very complicated contents but the author, Barbara Kingsolver, wrote them in very flat English.
Nice book, I think.

Today I joined a power lunch in Yotsuya Sanchou-me, which is basically set up for doctors or medical students to help them broaden their careers. I enjoy to see what they think and I think this experience will help me in the future.

Before go to bed

Everyday, this blog gets shorter and shorter. How is this?
Today it was sunny.

I went to the lab at 9a.m. to attend the meeting.
Then started to fill an application form. That was for ADk, which is the third largest advertising farm in Japan. Do you use "advertising farm" by the way?

In the afternoon, I found out that I will have a presentation the next friday!
That means, I will need to spend either Saturday or Sunday in order to choose which paper I will introduce to others.

I feel I need a litttle rest, but maybe this situation is what I wished but even myself do not know about it.

no citation today. Good night everyone!

"2 Days in Paris"

When someone leaves their comments, I get very excited.
Yes, I do.

This evening I went to the movie theatre in Ebisu to watch "2 Days in Paris".
I thought "Marion" was a gay's name but it was not.

Genesis1.3-1.5
And God said,"Let there be light." and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning---the first day.

One more thing

I think being able to say that I cannot do, can do or I want to do is one important point in order to communicate with others.

The Beginning

Last night I was very sleepy so I wrote a new post in Japanese and went to bed.

When I woke up at seven this morning, it was already raining.
The sound outside was blocked by the rain and it was very slilent inside of our house.
I liked it.

I am not sure whether my writing gets better by having a blog in English.
Perhaps I should cite some good examples from books.

Today's citation:
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

Excuse me, I make a lot of mistakes in spelling.

A few things happened today

Ummmm
In the morning, it was cloudy and in the afternoon, it was half raining, half claudy.

I went to Ikebukuro. Last time I went there I really did not like the place because of the smell and the dust, today it was not that bad.

Ummm...

I do not have much to say today.
I need to get my hair cut, seriously.

Oh, I have something to say!
This year, I restarted taking Chinese class.
http://search.sogua.com/
here you can find free Chinese music and practice listening, which is the most important
skill in learning Chinese.

TADANORI YOKOO BE ADVENTUROUS!

Today we went to Setagaya Art Museum. Tadanori Yokoo Be Adventurerous! was what we want to see.
He is a graphic designer but these days he also write books.
I liked his parodies of classic paintings by Henri Rousseau.
I did not like his posters as much as his parodies, they were
like those teenage boys' works...
That was a fun exhibition.

It was very fine day today.
I hope there is no rainy season in Japan.
When it rains, I tend to have negative thoughts than usual.
